Sunday Funday?

ImageToday was the most beautiful  day we have had here in a while.  Since it’s tax season and I’m not brave, I didn’t do what I wanted to do and pack the kids up for a spontaneous trip to the National Zoo.  Instead, we scooped up my nephew and the I took the five kids over to a local park near a beautiful pond.

The day was perfect for playing on the jungle gym, the baby was content and smiling and we had several hours before we had anywhere to be.  Not two minutes after we got to the park, my nephew came over complaining that he was “exhausted” and couldn’t possibly play on the equipment.  My son, trying to be like his big cousin, also joined Bella and me on the bench complaining of being tired.

This wasn’t looking good.

Five minutes into our trip at the park, Madison, my oldest, smacked her head into a monkey bar and we were done.  My fantasy of an easy breezy day outside with the kids was over and we were headed back to the car.  Tears ensued because there was absolutely no way I was taking four kids who hadn’t spent five minutes playing on the playground for the cupcakes I had suggested.  I mean, come on.  They hadn’t burned off any calories playing.  And I’m going to pump them full of sugar?  I think not.

Lessons learned:

  1. Remember to pack water.  I had the complaint of thirst as well as exhaustion.
  2. An ice pack keeps the previously mentioned drinks cold and could have been handy for a bump on the head.
  3. Plan ahead.  Nuff said.

After the park, I had to drop my nephew off and I discovered Wegmans on the way home.  That deserves mentioning, for sure.

I hope all of you had a great weekend!
